Activities Available While on Anguilla

There are so many wonderful things "to do" in our peaceful, relaxed Anguilla. Quite a few of them involve the beach - you can go swimming, sailing, scuba diving, kite surfing, fishing and horseback riding.  Visit our local art galleries, museums, or go on a historical tour.  Collect our various stamps. Spend time beach-combing for shells and beach glass. Enjoy our special pond and marsh environments including a wide variety of birds.

Colville Petty, Heritage MuseumColville Petty OBE, is an authority on Anguilla's history. He has written books on Anguilla's history and has a very fine collection of historical artifacts in his Heritage Museum. Some of these are from ancient settlements of the Arawak Indians. Others are from the time of Anguilla's Revolution.

Anguilla National Creative Arts Alliance buildingThe Anguilla National Creative Arts Alliance (ANCAA) aims to "develop, enrich and promote the culture of Anguilla through the creative arts by appreciation and participation". It encourages both traditional and contemporary arts and crafts to include ceramics, painting, sculpture, model-making and textile crafts. In association with the National Council of Women, ANCAA sells local work at the Arts & Crafts Centre in The Valley (next to the Public Library).

There are many artists on Anguilla and many forms of art - fine art, musical artists, song writers and galleries. Check the Anguilla Guide site for a partial list of artists and musicians Anguilla Art (new browser window).

Wallblake HouseThe Wallblake House Trust is restoring the complex so that it may thrive as a center for cultural, social and educational events for Anguilla.

Warspite - Anguilla ship that sailed 1919-1984While at Wallblake House, walk over to the 'Headquarters' for the Anguilla Heritage Trail. They have an office in one of the estate's outbuildings (next to the Great House) where information on the property is available together with Heritage Trail brochures. They are usually open in the morning (Mon-Fri) from about 8AM until lunch and sometimes later. The door will be open if someone is in. If no one is there, call 772-3495.

Note: Wallblake House is located in The Valley next to St. Gerrauds Catholic church. The Great House refers to the largest building on the property.

The Anguilla Heritage Trail is a joint project supported by the Anguilla Archaeological and Historical Society (AAHS), the Anguilla National Trust (ANT), the Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB), the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association (AHTA) and individual and corporate donors.

The trail, based on successful Caribbean models in Grand Cayman and Nevis, aims to introduce visitors and locals to Anguilla's past by creating permanent markers at 10 historic sites which were selected by public vote last year. The trail will be extended to include other sites in the future.

In addition to the markers, there are 30 directional signs to guide drivers to the sites and an interpretive brochure which will be available from the hotels, car rental agencies, and selected sites along the trail. The sites included are Colville Petty's Heritage Collection, Old Valley Well, Old Courthouse Foundations (Crocus Hill), KoalKeel/Wardens Place, Katouche Bay, Rendezvous Bay, Sandy Ground (Overlook on Back Street), the Pumphouse, Wallblake House, and the Factory.

Warspite - Anguilla ship that sailed 1919-1984The old schooner WARSPITE was a legendary vessel, built in Sandy Ground, Anguilla. It appears on the back of the ten-dollar EC Dollar note.
